| Report: | A very encouraging yet competitive night of racketball, with both teams fielding players new to match & team play. With the words "why am i doing this?" resounding from court 2, two match newbies Lloyd and June put their recently acquired racketball skills into practice. After some long rallies, combinations of "lucky shots!", miss hits and good shots Lloyd came out 3-0 winner. Next on court were the two number 1 seeds Mark & Fran. Fran was a little slow out the blocks allowing Mark to gain to much advantage in the 1st game, 11-2 to Mark. However after a few words from coach hubby, Fran came out on fire the next two games were a lot closer with long consistent rallies that ended in with scores of 11-6, 11-7 to Mark. Another match newbie Gavin, took to court 2 against Debbie, wow what a match!! with both players giving it their all and ending up completely exhausted. A very fair but competitive match ending 3-1 to Debbie. The last match watched by everyone was between Paul (PJ) & Marie. Scores not fully reflecting the effort put on both sides. Paul took the initial advantage of taking the first 11-9. Marie changed her game to begin her steady fight back to take the next 11-8. She also took the next game a little quicker 11-4 as Paul chose to take this as a "breather". So the next game saw some very good rallies, each player surprising the other but Marie pulled through taking it 11-8. Lots of social banter followed whilst sitting to enjoy a lovely 2 course meal and reminiscing of what could of happened. Well done everyone |
