Report: | Chris & Ben were well matched and enjoyed an exhausting 5 set duel, with Ben’s strong forehand proving his most potent weapon, and eventually too much for Chris to handle.
Playing at 3 were Neil and Shaun. Although Neil won the first and third comfortably, Shaun led for much of the closely contested 2nd game but Neil managed to close it out after recovering from 9-5 down.
At 2, Paul and Carl had a great tussle. Paul dominating the first, and Carl much of the second, until a late surge saw the scores level at 10 all, before Carl took it. The third saw Paul initially go 3-1 down, only to win the next 6 points. Carl rallied, and somehow took the next 8 points in a row to lead 2-1. Carl took this momentum in to the forth; racing to 5-0, and then 9-1. A final flurry from Paul was not enough to claw his way back from such a deficit, with Carl’s ability to keep the ball in play, forcing the error or finding the moment to engineer a winner.
With all to play for in the first string match, Mark made a slow start in the first, before gaining some momentum in the first half of the second game, although fading in the latter stages. Struggling with his mobility, Mark was again slow to get going in the third, picking up a few points late in the day.
Rather disappointingly, and without prior notice 3 of the Bannatynes team left after the game, apparently to go and eat somewhere else! |
