Report: | First of all would like to say big thanks to Richard Hall for playing at such short notice!
Richard Hall against John Chandler was the first game of evening. Richard had a strong first game - managing to keep John behind him, before John won the next two with some decent drop shots. Richard won the 4th game to take the match to a deciding game. It looked like Richard was going to power through, he was 10-4 up before John staged a brilliant comeback to win 14-12!
Kirstie Johnson against Ross Murray was up next. The first game was even up to 6-6 until Ross started to pull away - winning the game 13-8.
Kirstie rallied in the next game pulling away into a 11-4 lead before Ross started fighting back! Kirstie held her nerve well to win out 13-11.
The 3rd game was another close one. Kirstie pulled into a 10-7 lead but Ross fought back well and managed to win the game 13-10.
Ultimately, the 3rd game proved to be decisive as Ross ran out a 13-5 winner in the 4th and final game to win the match 3-1.
Peter Dye played Martin Sanville in the 3rd match of the evening. Peter performed well in the 1st game, cruising to a 10-4 lead before winning the game 13-7.
Martin battled back and took the next game 13-10 to bring the match to 1 game a piece!
Peter struggled from then on as he got hit by an injury. Martin didn't let that affect his focus and won the next 2 games to run out a 3-1 winner.
The penultimate game of the evening was Jordan Bowman against Matt Jordan. The first game went to Jordan - coming out a 13-9 winner.
The second game went Matt's way - managing to punish anything that wasn't tight to the wall.
The third game was also won by Matt. Again, anything that wasn't tight to the wall was given the treatment and the pressure eventually told on Jordan.
After some sagely advice from Mike Cramer, Jordan turned the game around. Playing a tighter, slower game allowed Jordan to dominate the game and take the match to a final game decider.
After some of the brutal rallies of the previous 4 games, the 5th game produced some quicker points after both Matt and Jordan started to wear out! Jordan managed to pull through to win 13-4.
The final game of the evening saw Gary Powley play John Baker. Early on in the first game, Gary managed to manoeuvre John around the court, but with the first game level at 7-7, John won the next 6 points to win the game 13-7.
From then on, anything that wasn't tight to the wall, John put away! Similar to the first game, the next 2 games followed the same pattern. It was all level at 9-9 in the 2nd game before John won 13-9. Again, in the 3rd game, the scores were level at 7-7 before, deja vu - John won the next 6 points!
A good night of squash - Thanks to everyone involved!
